LICORICE PIZZA & PARTY
Bought to you by: White Wall Cinema & The Brighton Film Party Society
28th August 2022 @ 5:30 pm
THE EVENT: Alongside a film screening White Wall Cinema welcomes the long awaited return of The Brighton Film Party Society (take a look at some of their previous work HERE). After an enforced hiatus the collective return for their first post-pandemic event as they provide set dressing and a soundtrack to bring to life the 1973 southern Californian setting from one of the best films of the year, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza.
Enjoy not only the film, but a pre-screening outdoor garden party with DJs spinning tunes from the era covering the likes of The Doors, Paul McCartney & Wings, David Bowie, Ohio Players, Blood Sweat and Tears, The O Jays, Steely Dan and more. Not only will there be a themed soundtrack but also a Licorice Pizza themed set (for photo ops), drinks bar, and an after film party with danceable early 70s tracks curated by our DJs. Come sip on a Piña Colada whilst taking in the So Cal styled cinema and sonic selections.
The wearing of 1973 style apparel is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. Some style inspiration can be found here and in the trailer below.
THE FILM: Feelings of desire, ambition, impulsiveness, bewilderment, excitement, intimacy, jealousy, certainty and uncertainty play out in a beautifully recognisable, yet unexpected way, set against the heady backdrop of early 1970’s California. Featuring a sea of complimentary characters and scenarios expertly placed to create the films freewheeling feel. One of the year’s best films, Licorice Pizza is an instant classic worth revisiting over and over again, casting a spell of nostalgia that delights, and confounds in the most brilliantly satisfying yet nuanced way.
